Hi its getting closer to summer, and i thought that ppl would enjoy a smoothy recipe for the hot weather.
Its fairly easy, and you can use many different types of fruits.
The basic recipe takes:
Low fat vanilla yogurt
some ice cubes
a lil sugar
vanilla
and your favorite fruits
I use bananas strawberries, blueberries, and pine apple, not always together, but in different combinations.
I mix everything together in my food processer.
I use 1/2 cup yogurt per serving, and a tsp sugar and 1/2 tsp vanilla, and 2 ice cubes, and my fave fruits.
First blend the yogurt and ice together. Then slice the fruit up into small pieces so that your blender does not have to work too much. Then add the fruit, and blend. You may have to push the fruit down because it tends to raise to the top of the mix. Remember to put the lid on while mixing to prevent messes.
Enjoy!
Oh I love to make smoothies. The way I make them are by adding
half to 1/3 of the cup or container I plan to drink from of milk
3-5 ice cubs depends on how slushy I want it
a spoon full of brown sugar
and some frute. : like, strawberries, blue berries, black berries, and with a top of banana,
The banana makes a foam on top.
and then I blend in my really nice blender that I got off of amazon recently.
Oh to make a banana nut smoothy is to put a hole banana, about one to two walnuttes, milk like above in previous post, about 4 ice cubs and then blend. You can add yougart to thicken smoothies if they are to thin.
I think the idea of walnuts sounds like a nice addition. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion.
I have a smoothie every day. I use skim milk, all-natural whey protein powder, a banana, and some berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc), and blend together.
you could also add a bit of coconutt if you like cocobutt. If you like you could make smoothies out of chockolit milk and add stuff like peanut butter to it.
maybe a chocolit milk, a bit of banana, some wal nuts and what ever else you may put on a banana split.
cocolit milk and strawberries sounds great too.
Where do you get your protein powder from? I would love to give it a try.
You can get it from walmart and I believe grocory stores. Also you can get it from Amazon.com. You should look in to the different kinds before getting one though: and if your going to mix it in to smoothies, you should get the kind that is not flavored. You can get some with himp seed, or flax seed. Flax has more of a grainny testure and himp doesn't. Himp is also supose to be healthier for you than Flax seed.
A favorite smoothie of mine:
{Note this is a more so a tart than sweet smoothie}
Take a cup of unsweetened pineapple juice
and pour into blender
Add sections of one grapefruit
Add one quart of fresh ripe strawberries
Mix till smooth
pour into glass
refrig. any left overs
Also may add to each glass a scoop of sherbet
if the smoothie to be more liken to a dessert.
Also to those who choose to
rum may be added to the glass that contains
the smoothie mixture.
Marchino cherries and/or pineapple sections
may be used as garnish if a person so desires.
I have bought the protein powder from Wal-Mart, but as mentioned, you can get it from Amazon, drugstore.com, and other retailers.
I am currently using the all-natural whey protein by Jillian Michaels. I decided to give hers a try because it doesn't have all the nasty preservatives and things like that in it, it has about 15 grams of protein per serving, and three grams of fiber. From what I have been reading and hearing, the whey protein is also healthier for you than other types.
I forgot to mention in my previous post that sometimes I, too, will add a small bit of peanut bubtter to a smoothie. Yummy! It's really good with some chocolate powder and a banana.
try to shop around, compare prices before buying. Also google and look to see wich ones are best for you, because the ones with gluten is not the best. Do some resurtching before buying. That is the main reason why I like to shop online, I can really look around without feeling like I am waisting somebodys time.
I agree. I'm always looking at things online; comparing, etc.
Smoothies are delicious.
For me, I've found using a basic staple-mix and adding fruit has worked. My mix is -
2-4 large scoops low-fat, unsweetened yogurt
A splash of vanilla
Honey to taste (usually about a teaspoon)
From there, add in any fruit combination at your discretion. I've used melon and grape mixes, blueberry banana, strawberry kiwi... all sorts of fun things.
Thanks for the information about the protein powder, but I'm curious, why aren't the ones with gluten good for you?
Some people have an intolerance for gluten, especially those who have Celiac disease.
Never used sugar but sounds good.
found this threw google on Yahoo about question about gluten above. go to link

Ah, thanks for all the information about the problems associated with gluten. Although I do not believe I have such a problem considering the fact that I eat whole wheat bread and pasta all the time. I guess it all depends on the person as I am sure there are probably some people out there who cannot tolerate whey protein since it is a milk product.
I know that whey protein is used in some baby formulas.
